9/11 Memorial

A 9/11 outdoor art memorial featuring a segment of the south beam of the World Trade Center is being announced by KCCI’s 2021 Community Catalyst team, Leon County Government, the American Red Cross, the City of Tallahassee, and Team Guardian Inc. on Wednesday, Sept. 8th before the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The KCCI 2021 Catalyst Team is helping with site planning, local government approvals, project execution and more. Watch the announcement LIVE on KCCI’s Facebook page at 10 am Wednesday, Sept. 8.

“The KCCI Community Catalyst team jumped at the opportunity to help bring this lasting tribute to the North Florida region when Project Guardian first approached KCCI to collaborate,” said Ali Palmer, KCCI Community Catalyst and Community Planner at Kimley-Horn. “This memorial will not only be a stunning work of art; it will provide a sanctuary accessible to visitiors of all backgrounds to honor those that lost their lives that day.”

The memorial will feature a segment of beam at the center of a base shaped like the Pentagon, and will act as a sundial – highlighting a series of surrounding bricks that track key moments of the morning of September 11, 2021, beginning with the first plane hitting the World Trade Center at 8:46 a.m.
