Call for Artists – Murals
Professional mural artists are invited to submit a proposal to help transform South Monroe Street into Tallahassee’s next iconic arts destination. This large‑scale public art initiative will commission up to eight bold, contemporary murals painted on stacked shipping containers, creating a vibrant, walkable outdoor gallery that celebrates the city’s creativity and sense of place. Artists will be paid. Details are in the call for artists, click here.
This public art initiative will help transform South Monroe Street into a vibrant outdoor gallery and arts destination that celebrates Tallahassee’s creativity while driving tourism, opportunity, and community investment in the Southside.
Led by the Knight Creative Communities Institute (KCCI) and the City of Tallahassee Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) in partnership with the landowner, this creative placemaking project turns everyday spaces into places people gather, explore, and take pride in.
Eight large-scale murals painted across stacked shipping containers will form a cohesive, photogenic landmark and strong visual identity for South Monroe Street. Designed to be vibrant and welcoming, the space features accessible sidewalks, 24/7 lighting, and a striking metal sculpture — creating a destination residents and visitors recognize, share, and return to.
