Community Engagement At All Levels

To create a public place that is appealing to all, KCCI teams begin their work with research and discovery. From 6-year-olds to 75-year-olds, we value community multigenerational feedback. Already, KCCI has gathered feedback from students at Bond Elementary and Killearn Lakes Elementary Schools and has talked to parent teacher organizations. Today, more than 200 Bond Elementary School children learned about the benefits of murals, the various career opportunities involved in creating public art, and they learned how to create a mural. Then, they took a turn designing what they would want to see on a mural in their neighborhood.

Their creative minds always inspire us! KCCI looks forward to creating public art that embodies what the entire community wants to see.

When creating this mural system, it is about more than a mural—it is about creating a cool place where people want to be. We are creating a public space that is a platform for placemaking, placekeeping, and social connection in our community.
