Intergenerational Public Art Project Unveiled by KCCI, W.T. Moore Elementary School & Westminster Oaks
WHAT: Unveiling of “Connected Communities, Inspire the Future” & new Art of the Box transform loss of Dempsey Mayo Road artistic crosswalks into a celebration of community and connection.
W.T. Moore Elementary School is one of nine locations where this year’s KCCI’s 2026 Community Catalyst team is bringing art back in the neighborhoods that were the sites of the former “Crosswalks to Classrooms,” artistic crosswalks that were removed in 2025. Believing in the power of public art to transform everyday places, the 2026 KCCI team is creating community landmarks across Tallahassee by uniting a diverse group of residents as they bring to life different projects at each site.

WT Moore Elementary Students Involved in New Artwork

WHERE: W.T. Moore Elementary School, 1706 Dempsey Mayo Road
FEATURED: Unveiling of the W.T. Moore/Westminster Oaks collaborative artwork and a new Art of the Box installation, featuring artwork from one of the original Dempsey Mayo Road artistic crosswalks. This year’s KCCI’s 2026 Community Catalyst team is bringing art back to 9 neighborhoods that were the sites of the original Crosswalks to Classrooms. This included KCCI leading the creation of The Stacks, helping transform South Monroe Street into a dynamic outdoor arts destination. Plus, KCCI leading public art projects at 8 schools that create creative spaces that inspire students and deepen connections between schools and their communities. Schools that have already seen artwork return this year are: Hartsfield Elementary School, Sabal Palm Elementary, DeSoto Trail Elementary and now W.T. Moore Elementary. Projects upcoming are at Cobb Middle School, Nims Middle School, Kate Sullivan Elementary, and FAMU. Together, these projects leverage creative ideas as a catalyst for economic vitality, educational enrichment, and long-term community connections and transformation.
