A Colorful Celebration Brings Three Generations Together at W.T. Moore
There was plenty of color and even more community spirit at W.T. Moore Elementary School today!
Students, families, longtime neighbors and community leaders gathered for the festive unveiling of a new Art of the Box and 50-foot mural, transforming the school fence into a joyful celebration of creativity and connection. Neighbors of all ages brought together three generations of neighbors to create something special for the place they call home and the kids were thrilled to have local celebrity Mayor John Dailey in attendance.
Inspired by the theme “Connected Communities, Inspire the Future,” the mural features artwork from W.T. Moore fifth graders Amora Smith, Emery Smith, Nathan Atumo, Katelyn Davis, Raelynn Scott, Ariyanah Thomas, Terrence Harris, JW Nettles and Cadence Walton, alongside artwork by Westminster Oaks resident Robin Gray. All other artwork is on display through October 31 at Leon County Eastside Branch Library and the Downtown Library.
And this colorful story has some history. In 2023, KCCI, students and neighbors teamed up with artist Cosby Hayes to create artistic crosswalks along Dempsey Mayo Road. The art made an impact: vehicle speeds dropped by more than 20%, pedestrians felt safer and traffic compliance improved. When those crosswalks were removed in 2025, the community simply found a new canvas. Today, their creative spirit is back—bigger, brighter and bringing generations together. Even the original crosswalk artwork has found a new home on a nearby Art of the Box installation.
The unveiling kicks off KCCI’s 8th Annual Placemaking Week, featuring free events, public art, live music and neighborhood beautification projects throughout the community.
The celebration was made possible with the leadership of KCCI’s 2026 Community Catalyst team with support from Mayor John Dailey, WT Moore Principal Millard, Westminster Oaks residents.
One neighborhood. Three generations. A new Art of the Box and 50 feet of art that shows just how colorful community connection can be.
