Sabal Palm Bike Park Sponsor Announcement

Tallahassee, Fla.- The KCCI 2020 Community Catalyst Team is proud to announce Lowe’s, Capital City Bank, the Tallahassee Mountain Bike Association, and First Baptist Church of Tallahassee as sponsors of the educational bike safety project at Sabal Palm Elementary.

Sabal Palm Elementary, A Community Partnership School, is a public Title 1 school, with more than 500 students that serves the 32304 zip code. Many of the children and families at Sabal Palm rely on walking or cycling as their primary mode of transportation to and from school. The educational bike park will improve cycling safety, helping teach valuable road safety skills that will assist children in traveling safely to school, where they can focus on reaching their full potential both inside and outside of the classroom.

The park is split into three zones: the educational path designed to teach students bike safety by simulating real life experiences with lanes, stop signs and pedestrian crossings, an off-road path, and a covered training area for younger students and for rainy or hot days.

The 2020 KCCI volunteer team that is leading the bike project is made possible by KCCI and our partners that enable KCCI to create positive change in Leon County. Established in 2007, KCCI is a local organization committed to positive placemaking and community collaboration in Tallahassee. KCCI projects have generated nearly $1 Billion in economic impact for Leon County. A new group of volunteer Community Catalysts is selected to plan and implement each annual project. This year’s Community Catalysts are Theresa Bender, Bo Courtenay, Tarsha Davis, Chris Edwards, William Eichhoefer, Richard Fetchick, Suzannah Grasel, Eric Katz, Molly Lord, Patrick O’Bryant, Jamiron Richardson, Jess Sorensen, and Callie Watson.
